Here at Jiemao Lashes and Brows, we’re dedicated to creating brows that perfectly frame your features and enhance your beauty. Among the many methods of brow shaping, waxing and threading are often compared and mentioned as both are known for achieving clean, precise results. However, at Jiemao, we exclusively offer brow waxing. If you’ve ever wondered about the difference between the two, here’s everything you need to know along with pre-appointment tips, aftercare and why our team continues to use waxing as our go to brow shaping method.
Brow waxing is a quick, effective, and a precise technique for shaping and defining the brows. At Jiemao, we use gentle, high-quality wax formulated specifically for the brow and facial area, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience with minimal redness. During your treatment, a thin layer of warm wax is carefully applied to unwanted hair, then swiftly removed to reveal a clean, defined shape. Waxing efficiently removes even the finest hairs from the root, leaving the skin soft and the brows perfectly sculpted. One of the key benefits of brow waxing is how polished the results appear which is ideal for our clients who love a tidy finish without over tweezing. Each appointment begins with a consultation, where a team member will assess your face shape, brow structure, and personal preferences before expertly shaping your brows. The process is also fast and low-maintenance, with results lasting up to three to four weeks, making it a favourite among clients with busy lifestyles. Threading is another method of hair removal that uses a twisted cotton thread to pull hairs from the root. It’s known for its precision and is often chosen by those with very sensitive skin or those who prefer a completely product free treatment. While threading can create clean results, it can sometimes cause more irritation or discomfort for certain skin types particularly if the skin is thin, dry, or easily inflamed. At Jiemao, we prioritise skin health, comfort, and consistent precision, which is why we have choose waxing as the method allows us to achieve smooth, defined results while being gentle on the skin and maintaining the natural balance of your brow area, with the use of tweezing the remove any remaining hairs.
Preparation and aftercare:
Knowing how to prepare for your wax before your appointment is also important. To ensure the best possible results and a comfortable experience we have a few recommendations we give to our clients at Jiemao. Avoid exfoliating or using retinoids (such as retinol or strong acids) for at least 48 hours prior to your waxing treatment, as these can make the skin more sensitive which may lead to grazing of the skin. Skip tanning or sun exposure right before your appointment, as freshly tanned or sunburnt skin can be more reactive. Let your brows grow out slightly, we suggest at least two weeks of growth to allow for a clean, defined shape. Keep your skin clean and free of makeup or oils before your treatment. This helps the wax adhere properly and ensures an even finish. We always begin by cleansing the brow area and discussing your desired shape, ensuring you feel completely comfortable before we begin so don’t worry!
Following your brow wax, it’s normal for the skin to appear slightly pink or sensitive this typically subsides within a few hours. To maintain your results and protect the skin, we recommend you avoid touching or applying makeup to the treated area for at least 12 hours after your wax. Stay away from heat, steam, and exercise for 24 hours which includes saunas, hot showers, and workouts, as heat can irritate freshly waxed skin. Avoid exfoliating or using active skincare (like acids or retinoids) for 48 hours and finally keep the area hydrated with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser or aloe vera gel if needed. With proper aftercare, your brows will remain smooth, soft, and beautifully shaped.
